技術解説

The electronic triage system developed by our research group is a wireless sensor network, constructed by electronic triage tags, which are composed of vital sign sensors and ZigBee modules. Periodic collection and monitoring of vital signs have been considered the most important problem in the electronic triage scenario. For this purpose, we have investigated the performance of a simple data collection mechanism based on IEEE 802.15.4, targeting the less memory and communication overhead in low-cost ZigBee devices like SunSPOTs. We have evaluated the mechanism in several circumstances encountered to be in the electronic triage scenario. We simulate the scenario by changing the data rates in particular nodes of star, chain and general scenarios. We have considered a topology assumed to have 40 nodes each constructing an imaginary network of around 80 nodes for the stress testing. In such a highly dense network, the packet arrival ratio has been observed to be 85%, that meets the requirement of medical personnels who consider the arrival ratio of at least 80% as a considerable amount in the electronic triage scenario.
